I decided to go to school for Elecromechanical Engineering Technology (EMET) after i had been on the FIRST Robotics Competition team in high-school. I really enjoyed watching the solutions that my peers and I developed, with help from aerospace engineers from Lockheed Martin, be processed and combined to create a more efficient solution to the problem at hand. My time on the robotics team really opened my eyes to the beauty of science and technology and drove me to take the engineering electives offered at my high school. As a result I became very accomplished in those classes and earned the Engineering award and the CAD award upon graduation of high school. In college i took Mechanical Design Principles (MDP) and Mechanical Systems Design (MSD) where the class was presented with a problem statement and developed solutions to them by generating a set of mechanical drawings and corresponding calculation sheets. I earned high marks on almost all of the assignments presented to me in those classes and i decided to become a peer tutor for CAD related courses. I ended up tutoring students in Digital Logic, Graphics/CAD, Advanced CAD, Solid Modeling, MDP, MSD, Circuit Theory, and Power Circuits throughout the rest of my college career. Towards the end of my sophomore year the college stopped offering the EMET degree which made me have to decide between pursuing the bachelors degree, that now has a graduation deadline, and taking upper level classes without a solid knowledge of the basics, or splitting my degree into two associates degrees, Electrical Engineering Technology and Mechanical Engineering Technology, to gain a solid knowledge of the basics of both fields. I decided to split my degree because i felt that having a solid understanding of the basics was much more important than obtaining a bachelors degree. I have a passion for both Mechanical and Electrical engineering, so ideally i would like to be a part of a company that deals with robotics / automation.
