Teaching Composition courses and tutoring in the Writing Center.

Provide professional development in Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) and effective teaching strategies for English language learners (ELL).

Engage and support learners (K-12 teachers and administrators) as they participate in online courses for professional development and graduate credit. Utilize effective written communication skills to support adult learners. Respond promptly to learners’ questions via email, and interact with learners by facilitating online discussion forums. Review coursework – providing formative feedback on reflection questions and reviewing and providing grades for midterms and finals. Be a subject matter expert in the content of KDS courses related to leadership, English language arts, English learners, and classroom management. Support learners in the navigation of the KDS eClassroom.

Provided ESOL inclusion and pull-out instruction in grades 6-8. Supported teachers in the use of WIDA transformations, sheltered instruction, and other accommodations to support ELLs in the classroom and in accessing the CCSS curriculum.

Elementary ESOL teacher. Over 4 years my students achieved 95% pass rate on the Virginia Grade Level Assessment—an alternative end of year reading assessment. Taught students who collectively represented over 30 languages. Chosen twice to be part of a county-wide scoring panel for the Virginia Grade Level Assessment, scoring over 1000 binders each time. Participated in a Response to Intervention (RtI) pilot program for 2 years—conducted universal screeners for over 600 students in grades 1-5. Worked closely with specialists, classroom teachers, administrators and IEP teams to perform curriculum based measurements (CBM’s), track data, and provide interventions.

I taught English, Literature, Speech, and Drama while serving as a mentor for students in the junior class.
