About Brandi Simmons

With experience across sectors from journalism to arts nonprofits to higher education, a constant theme in my career has been helping others share their stories and highlight (or further develop) their talents. This skill set is especially useful in my current role as Outreach & Communications Manager with LSU Communication across the Curriculum, where I get to work alongside notable faculty and colleagues committed to making a sizeable impact in their own fields and through the students they teach and the actionable research they generate. Outside of the office, I have been fortunate to have the flexibility to make intentional decisions about the organizations I commit to. I want to ensure the impact I have can extend beyond any one profession, and the experience I gain can allow me to have a broader, more holistic outlook as a community advocate, volunteer, and board member. During my tenure, we have seen an 88% increase in courses certified by CxC (LSU’s key priority), graduated 273 LSU Distinguished Communicators, and administered 689 LSU Communicator Certificates, while offering robust faculty professional development programming and opportunities for recognition across the university for more than… Show more As the CxC Programming & Communications Manager, I lead all PR, marketing, and communications, along with client relations, experience design, and program management. During my tenure, we have seen an 88% increase in courses certified by CxC (LSU’s key priority), graduated 273 LSU Distinguished Communicators, and administered 689 LSU Communicator Certificates, while offering robust faculty professional development programming and opportunities for recognition across the university for more than 300 faculty each year.I also manage the day-to-day professional development programming for the LSU Halliburton Scholars Program. This program currently provides leadership and development opportunities (along with a financial award) for 43 high-achieving students interested in careers within the energy sector. Additionally, LSU CxC is leading university-wide efforts to focus on undergraduate communication skills development over the next five years to reaffirm the university's Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation, where I serve as co-chair of the Marketing & Communications working group.
