Practiced law at one of the largest law firms in the world, representing various Fortune 500 companies (i.e. Home Depot, Coca Cola, Delta, UPS, etc.) in complex commercial litigation matters in state and federal courts throughout the country. I decided to put the practice of law "on hold" to chase a crazy dream and to scratch my entrepreneurial 'itch' -- to build a company around a fascinating/brilliant residential building product: blown-in insulation (i.e. the stuff in your attic) made principally from recycled paper content and infused with a natural/non-toxic pesticide (included to help keep insects/pests out of structures). The crazy dream turned out better than I'd hoped, and I'm thankful to be able to continue to do what I love: building great teams/companies in the home services/real estate industries. From military, to practicing law, and then into business, I have always tried hard to be a student of leadership. However, it wasn't until I found myself in the business world that I recognized the true value of genuine leadership. As I have developed my own style of leadership, the following stood out to me as particurly important (and I have become fanatical and obsessive about them):1) Always learning: an insatiable thirst for clearer insight into what it truly means to be a servant leader; always searching for ways to become a more authentic & effective - yet principled - leader of people;2) People: every company, regardless of industry, is only the sum of its employees; great teams, although very hard to come by, will ALWAYS find a way to win; simply put — extraordinary people are the essential and primary ingredient in the recipe for great businesses;3) Genuine, "old-fashioned" Customer Service: how to build team wherein all team members are passionate about exceeding customer expectations at each turn via a dogged determination to treat each customer the same way each of us would hope to be treated ourselves in the same situation; as such...long-term success is directly proportional to: a) how a company treats its customers, and b) whether significant company decisions are genuinely made by always determining what is best for the customer;4) Character: seeking excellence in your craft while also refusing to waver from a steadfast dedication to integrity, compassion, honesty and humility. Ever. Be authentic. Trust your gut. Stay humble.
