Trained as a conservation biologist and ornithologist, I am now wholly dedicated to a career that leverages my communications strengths to achieve climate solutions. I received an MS in 2011 in Conservation Biology from the University of Minnesota—Twin Cities, and my program honored me with an Outstanding Conservation Biology Graduate Student Award. I have worked on conservation projects throughout the world (AZ, CA, MN, MT, OR, PA, TX, Ecuador, and the Falkland Islands) while sharpening my communications and leadership skills. I have served as editor of two nonprofit newsletters, written articles and given presentations extensively, and served on the communications team for multiple U.S. State of the Birds reports. As the primary organizer of a new birding festival in Oregon in 2014, I managed a team of volunteers with great success. I have also worked productively with diverse communities, including Ecuadorian park rangers and rural Falkland sheep farmers. During my Master’s thesis investigation of a human-wildlife conflict as well as my tenure as a nonprofit Outreach & Communications Specialist, I gained valuable experience in project management and coordination, social media, fundraising, personnel supervision, and relationship building with individuals from NGOs, government agencies, and local communities. Additionally, I follow climate science closely; as a consultant, I completed a scientific literature review and handout series on climate change for the Klamath-Siskiyou Wildlands Center in southern Oregon.
