As a resident assistant for Ohio University I am responsible for managing 60 students on my floor by creating relationships, supporting the residents, and making sure they are all following the policies and procedures for the residence hall. I am tasked with planning engaging events for residents by figuring out what they are interested in and collaborating with other resident assistants to make the event happen. I hold 2 meetings a semester with 30 of the residents to go further into how they are adapting to college life, ways I can help support them by giving advice, and by facilitating resources if needed. Overall, I am a guide to my residents in their journey through their college experience by helping them in any way I can.

During this experience, I am learning a lot about the marketing world and how jobs in this position can be. I am working many sporting events for Ohio University and are involved with marketing activities that take place during these events. My duties include throwing t-shirts to fans, directing fan engagement activities, and thinking of solutions for problems that may occur during these events.

The Ralph and Luci Schey Sales Centre is one of the nation's first and highest ranked competitive entry collegiate sales program, learning skills in sales, leadership, and professionalism.

I worked in the residential sales department for 12 weeks. Throughout my time with IGS, I developed a more advanced understanding of the home warranty, electricity and natural gas markets for Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Indiana, and Illinois. I was responsible for managing new and existing customer accounts by making an average of 60 calls per day. During each call I would build rapport, go over what they have us, renew their plans if they need renewed, and sell them on other plans or commodities that we offer. Over the summer, I worked side by side with a team of interns and full-time employees. I achieved a total of 93 sales and helped my team add more new sales than the company lost for the first time in the company’s history this past fiscal year. I also contributed to bringing the customer retention to 77% when the industry average is less than 60%.

As a sales associate for Best Buy I exceeded my goal of selling $1,000 of electronics per hour by asking qualifying questions to customers to maximize their budget and provide quality customer service. I pitched paid memberships and credit card applications by being enthusiastic and explaining the perks to every customer to help them take advantage of those benefits. I also completed specialized training in home theater and appliances.

As a sales representative for Vector I sold a product called Cutco. I called family, friends, friends of family, and friends of friends to schedule appointments. I completed appointments with customers by demonstrating how each product worked, comparing my knives to their own, and how they could be used in the future. I gave exquisite customer service by not being pushy, understanding my customers' needs, and being polite and professional when scheduling and completing each appointment. I sold over $10,000 worth of Cutco products all while managing schoolwork and working at Best Buy.

While being a lifeguard at the Marysville Municipal Pool in Marysville, Ohio I oversaw an average of 100-500 patrons at the city pool by watching attentively to ensure all the patrons were safe at the pool every day of the week. I provided each patron with exceptional customer service by listening to their concerns and answering the questions that they might’ve had and responding to them in a nice and patient manner. I also collaborated closely with managers to identify areas of concern and develop remediation strategies.

In my time as an associate at Donatos in Marysville, Ohio I ensured every pizza was made right by putting toppings on each pizza and making sure each order was 100% correct by getting their order just the way they wanted it. I made sure the information was accurate when recording orders daily to provide customers with the utmost amount of precision by double checking the orders and relaying it to my coworkers. I also answered phone calls with a great attitude and good customer service. Lastly, I successfully was able to communicate with all members of my team to navigate job responsibilities.
