About Brandon Hunter, Phd, Eit
My mission is to utilize my academic, professional, and coalition building experiences in engineering design, science research, and environmental justice activism to improve the health, safety, and well-being of society.I am a certified design engineer, research scientist, consultant, educator, a diversity, equity, and inclusion advocate, and environmental justice activist. I have extensive experience with program directing, team coordination, engineering design, community research pedagogy, science research, directive consulting, science communication, service grant writing, interdisciplinary manuscript development, community capacity building, and coalition-building to influence infrastructure policy. In addition to technical expertise in wastewater and sanitation research and design, I have hands-on experience with sanitation field system construction, maintenance, operation, and data monitoring. I am skilled in water, wastewater, and soil field sampling techniques, performing robust laboratory methods to access exposure to microbial contaminants.I have worked and collaborated with a diverse array of research organizations, design consultants, industrial companies, NGOs, municipalities, private foundations, start-up companies, community organizations, and non-profit organizations both domestic and abroad. I have developed coalitions around infrastructure access and have designed research to influence policy and decision making. I have experience teaching in diverse settings including academic lectures, research laboratories, and the corporate workplace. I serve as an advocate and mentor for diversity, equity, and inclusion programs and initiatives within the STEM community to various capacities at institutional, local, regional, and national scales. My work focuses on equitable processes as to how academia, government, philanthropy, private sector, and community-based organizations conceptualize, implement, and evaluate environmental justice programming, research, and initiatives.
