Get Empowered Today (GET) is a new non-profit aimed at fostering grassroots community reinvestment, wherein young adults revitalize their communities as leaders, scholars and investors. GET's goal is to empower low-income young adults transitioning into adulthood to achieve their dreams and strengthen their communities. Starting in City Heights in San Diego, GET participants will pursue post-secondary education (vocational, community college, and four year universities), employment, become financially savvy, make healthier choices, and build meaningful relationships. GET has the dual mission of equipping low-income Young Adults with the life skills necessary to successfully transition into adulthood, and to invite Communities to participate in the education and creation of their own organic leaders, scholars, and investors who then reciprocate positive cycles of community growth through grassroots reinvestment.GET Graduates will play a vital role in long term generational empowerment by re-engaging their communities as capable and independent adults who share their learned skills and earned experiences intergenerationally with their families as part of an organic growth model. Participants will be equipped with the skillset to obtain these goals as they learn interdependent living skills to interface with available social resources. Reciprocity between Young Adults and their Communities is GET’s ultimate focus, which can only be achieved through mutual investment between the two.
