Radiation Protection Technician Intern
Waynesboro, Georgia, United States
During my internship in the Radiation Protection department of Unit 3&4, I had the privilege of shadowing seasoned technicians to gain valuable insights into the daily operations. This experience provided me with the opportunity to collaborate with various sub-departments, including Respiration, Emergency Response, Calibration, Dosimetry, and general assistance. I quickly familiarized myself with the tools and procedures commonly utilized in the department. Moreover, I actively participated in hands-on activities such as surveying for contamination and dose rates within the Radiological controlled area. Additionally, I had the privilege of attending ALARA briefings and assisting inside containment with the reactor at power, which was an exceptional and rare learning opportunity given the historic start-up of Unit 3. This immersive experience has undoubtedly enriched my professional development in the field of Radiation Protection, granting me unique insights that few in the profession have the chance to acquire.
