Oversee all functions of the Economic Development Department, including Business Retention and Expansion initiatives, business attraction, and asset development. Develop strategies to enhance the overall economy by bringing high wage and high investment projects to the community. Represent Hanover County on various local and regional committees.

Actively involved in the City's Business Retention and Expansion Program, including visiting in excess of 50 businesses annually and working to retain businesses in the community by addressing issues and providing assistance to improve operations and relations with the City.Administer the City's Enterprise Zone program, with local and State grant allocations in excess of $1 million per year; total allocations of $6.5 million.Assist with business recruitment and expansion activities, focusing on industrial and large-scale commercial, including preparation and deliverance of incentive packages and RFI’s/RFP’s.Partnered with businesses in the creation of 923 jobs, retention of 2,010 jobs, and capital investment of $208 million for new and expansion projects including Fuji Electric, Deschutes Brewery, Steel Dynamic, Wholesome Harvest Baking, PowerSchool, and Virginia 811/911.Acted as staff liaison to the City of Roanoke’s Economic Development Authority; prepared and set all meeting agendas, coordinated special events and annual retreats, establish and monitor complex performance agreements, and establish/monitor discretionary grant programs, with 14 grants issued in the amount of $1,388,000.Member of the Roanoke-Alleghany Regional Commission’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategies committee; worked with partners identifying projects of regional significance in order to apply for State and Federal funding. Applied for, and received, a $1.5 million Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration infrastructure grant to extend Blue Hills Drive to Deschutes Brewery; also applied for and received a Virginia Department of Transportation grant in the amount of $650,000 for the Deschutes project.

Led the County's destination marketing initiatives, and worked closely with partners to leverage resources in increasing regional awareness, organization of familiarization tours, Co-op marketing efforts, and development of the County’s State-approved Tourism Development Plan.Assisted with business retention, expansion, and relocation activities, including bringing Intersections (225 jobs; $250,000 capital investment) to Altavista.Responsible for the 2012 update of the County's Comprehensive Economic Development Strategic Plan; coordinated a diverse committee of 30 individuals in updating and expanding the five-year strategic plan for the County’s economic development.Participated in, and was appointed Chair, of the County's internal Infrastructure Team; identified cost savings of over $300,000 for the County’s FY 2012 budget.

Completed a major broadband analysis project mapping coverage, bandwidth speeds, and pricing throughout the region, and presented findings to key regional government and business leaders.Performed research and analysis on numerous government and business topics, including cost-of-living studies, the housing market, and regional growth patterns.Assisted with the successful completion of the Altavista and Brookneal CDBG applications to contribute to the redevelopment of their historic downtown districts.
