Brandon Apresa Email and Phone Number
Hello! I'm a graduate from Lewis & Clark College, who majored in biology and obtained a minor in neuroscience. As a scientific researcher, I'm driven by the desire to contribute to meaningful discoveries that can impact the lives of individuals + the growing scientific community. My current focus lies in investigating and addressing the mechanisms driving neurodegenerative diseases. During my time at Lewis & Clark College I wrote a thesis on Parkinson's research (under the mentorship of Tamily Weissman-Unni), studying the aggregation properties of alpha-synuclein, which plays an important role in the pathology of the disease. I have now shifted my focus to Alzheimer's disease, the most common neurodegenerative disease in the world! As a PROPEL scholar at UCSF under mentorship of Brandon Holmes, Jim Wells, and Kevin Leung, I hope to better understand and address this disease. I'm deeply passionate about my research and eager to share my experiences and knowledge with anyone interested. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you'd like to connect or learn more!

Teaching AideLewis & Clark College Sep 2023 - Jan 2024TA for advanced Neurobiology course taught at Lewis & Clark college. This includes prepping crayfish and zebrafish for lab projects. Microinjections of plasmid DNA containing GFP causes expression which allows for visualization of neurons within zebrafish. This method is employed in order to provide students a model organism to view the central nervous system under a microscope. -
