I am passionate about problem solving and building things. I enjoy solving problems of any scale.When I was about 10, I sat down at the family computer to write my own operating system.I wanted to be the next Bill Gates, and I knew just how to do it. My operating system would be called Door, and the slogan would be "Close the Windows and open the Door". How could I fail?!I opened Notepad, and typed "Door". This was to be the start of my boot screen.Unfortunately, I didn't have any programming knowledge past batch scripts, and I didn't know where to get it. That was the first and last day I worked on Door, but it was only the start of a life-long journey.I have been attracted to all things computer-related for my entire life, but everything has revolved around software development in one way or another.I owned a computer repair company for four years. I wrote lots of scripts and GUI applications to make working on customer machines easier and more automated.I needed a system to track each computer that I was working on, so I wrote a ticket system in PHP using MySQL to back it. The site was deployed on a VPS and available to the general public (but required a login to use it).When ASP.net came out, I rewrote the ticketing system with it as a way to learn the language.Since then, I have used Electron to write many cross-platform GUI applications that simplify my life and workflows in one way or another. I have also written many scripts and programs for bash, zsh, and fish shells.I have even contributed to popular plugins for vim and have commits in the Ruby on Rails code base.In my professional career, my instincts and passion have led me through projects that use many different technologies. Some of the front end technologies I have experience with are: react.js, redux.js, backbone, jquery, and deep knowledge of the javascript language itself.Some of the backend technologies I have worked with professionally are Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Node, PHP. Although I specialize in Ruby, I have dabbled with, and really enjoy, elixir and golang.I also have experience with many ancillary technologies, such as CSS, SASS, ERB, HAML, SLIM, TypeScript, and CoffeeScript.I regularly deploy and maintain VPS machines on services such as Digital Ocean, and have extensive experience with Heroku.
