At Finless Foods, Brandon has shepherded the team in successfully raising Series A and Series B financings, including developing a Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA) model to guide manufacturing facility planning, production expansion, and finance strategy. Under Brandon’s scientific leadership and strategic guidance, Finless developed proprietary process technology for producing Bluefin tuna cells, submitted a regulatory dossier, and achieved R&D milestones toward commercializing cell-cultured seafood. Brandon led the construction project of Finless’ first pilot facility, from lease negotiation and space design to the commission of the pilot facility. He created and oversaw Finless’ culture committee to enhance company culture, organization cohesion, and effective communication. He provided leadership training to empower scientist-turned-managers to build a high-performance team. Brandon is also responsible for contract negotiations, business partnerships, and technology licensing.

Brandon managed a virtual drug discovery team and successfully demonstrated the anti-cancer properties of novel chemicals synthesized with a proprietary cell-free technology he co-invested at Geomatica. As Head of R&D, he managed drug development programs through contract research organizations (CROs) to conduct cell-based assays, synthetic lethality, ADME, toxicology, animal models, and PK/PD studies. He also worked with academic research laboratories to incorporate synthetic biology, medicinal chemistry, and molecular simulation to rapidly advance novel chemical entities (NCE) targeting cancers with no good drugs to address unmet medical needs. As a co-founder, he participated in fundraising, investor communications, strategic planning, business partnerships, strategic alliances, intellectual properties, and financial budgeting.

Brandon led R&D project teams that engineered microbes to improve the titer and yield of bio-based chemicals using synthetic biology, metabolic pathway engineering, enzyme evolution, and robotic automation. He led a team to implement a robotic automation platform for straining engineering with integrated high-content data collection that enables data analytics and mining. His work contributed to commercializing the GENO Bio-BDO precision fermentation process, which converts sugars to 1,4-butanediol (BDO) at an industrial scale. He also led the early development work of Geno’s plant-based nylon. Later, Brandon co-invented a proprietary cell-free technology and led a cross-functional matrix team that applied this technology to produce novel chemical entities (NCEs) based on natural product scaffolding for drug discovery. He helped incubate this technology and spin off Snap Bio from Genomatica.

Brandon advised startup companies in technology evaluation, market assessment, financial modeling, and strategy in synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, bioinformatics, precision medicine, Next-Gen DNA sequencing, and molecular diagnostics.

Brandon led CODA Genomics’ therapeutic biologics efforts to develop anti-TNF alpha antibodies and alternative biologic scaffolds. He was the project leader of early drug discovery and cell-based assay development programs. He and his team pioneered a novel synthetic DNA library assembly technology for rapidly evolving antibody and therapeutic biologics. Brandon also acted as a scientific liaison and project manager for client engagement, technical due diligence, intellectual property evaluation, and new technology assessment.
