APL's Design Thinking & Innovation Group is a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, designers, and makers applying Human Centered Design (HCD) and Design Thinking (DT) methodologies toward tackling gnarly national security challenges. Driving Government Sponsor Innovation:We provide Front End Innovation (FEI) support for government sponsors, helping them identify key challenges and define solutions, roadmaps, and strategies. One of our major focus areas is the Tactical Advancements Next Generation (TANG) program; an OPNAV-funded program focused on achieving disruptive innovation through warfighter centered design.Supporting Internal APL Innovation:Our group partners with other teams across the lab, enhancing their problem framing and solution landscaping capabilities. Initiatives we support range from sponsor project concept generation to APL Enterprise strategy.
