I write, speak, and create videos about humanity: people's stories, outlook, culture, and social institutions.I do so interactively—by interviewing and by immersing myself into their lives. I do so analytically—through research and observation. In all, I like to offer that which is usually missed: an individual's unique experience, a new look at a topic or issue, or a revelation about life. I recently completed a series of articles, videos, and a presentation about my journey to Cuba. Currently, I'm completing a series of videos about life and issues around the Twin Cities. Then in the next six months, I'm planning a travel series along the U.S.-Mexico border to explore the lives and issues of this region. My work began in earnest in 2010 when I lived in China for one year and about which I wrote "Life Learned Abroad: Lessons on Humanity from China." I lived in East Africa for eight months in 2014, about which I'm drafting a multimedia book about the experiences and lessons learned from this part of the world. In 2016 I toured the US South, recording conversations with locals about their lives, their outlooks on the world, and about what makes their part of the country special. In 2017, I did the same throughout the Pacific Northwest.My work has been featured in the Minneapolis Star Tribune (startribune.com), Minnesota Public Radio (mpr.org), and the St. Paul Pioneer Press (TwinCities.com).I've presented for audiences across the Midwest and have been interviewed on various radio shows about my work.
