Aug 2017 - Dec 2018As editor and publisher of the Jackson County Sentinel and Jackson Monthly magazine in Scottsboro, Alabama, as well as the Sequatchie Valley Independent in Jasper, Tennessee, I managed the day-to-day functions of the newspaper and magazine publishing business. Responsibilities included managing content creation and aggregation, recruiting talented news personnel, allocating the organization's budget, ensuring customer satisfaction, maintaining good public relations and driving revenue. The Sentinel has served Jackson County for more than 130 years, first publishing in 1887.In everything we do, we're building a community. We do this by fostering a community identity, setting the agenda for local dialogue, encouraging personal and economic growth, and recording the history of our time.The three publications are owned by Southern Newspapers, Inc., of Houston, TX.• The Sentinel was in decline when I arrived in Scottsboro.
