CurrentI work for a community based tenants' rights organization in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. We educate and counsel tenants regrading their rights. We work to curb the effects of gentrification and also advocate for the development and preservation of affordable housing throughout New York City.My specific responsibilities as Director of Organizing and Policy at the Cooper Square Committee are:>General Duties• Manage team of five tenant organizers/housing counselors• Oversee community organizing efforts• Continue to organize tenant associations and tenant coalitions• Coordinate leadership development programming>Campaigns• Help coordinate the Stand for Tenant Safety coalition, a citywide coalition to reform the NYC Dept of Buildings. This coalition is seeking legislative and regulatory solutions to strengthen the enforcement of the NYC Dept of Buildings• Continue to organize Lower East Side tenants negatively impacted by NYC Dept of Building's current enforcement protocol• Coordinate efforts to hold banks accountable for their role in underwriting bad-acting landlords and displacing low-moderate income tenants
