I am a Lead Environmental Engineer with a keen passion for remediating contaminated land to improve the environment and for sustainable redevelopment. Currently in the UK thousands of homes are needed to meet the demand of a growing population, similarly more restrictions are coming into place to prevent development of ‘greenfield sites’ but new opportunities are arising elsewhere. Brownfield sites are now seen as development opportunities to fill the quota of new homes required and can be quickly re-developed due to government backing. The majority of derelict land and brownfield sites have geotechnical or environmental problems such as: unstable soils or contamination. These problems can put off developers or stakeholders from investing or re-developing the land because of the stigma associated with them or anticipating high clean-up costs. Appropriate remediation techniques employed on such sites can remove or mitigate risks to human health and the environment, thus allowing the land to be redeveloped at a relatively low cost.VertaseFLI is also a contributor to ongoing research within the contaminated land industry and has won numerous awards and accreditation's such as ‘Best project verification process’ at the Brownfield Briefing Awards to name one. VertaseFLI has also contributed to the publication of ‘CAR-SOIL TM: Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012’.
