Programer & Analyst

Cedar City, Utah, Us

My primary role as a Programer & Analyst has been to support Student Affairs with software integration, implementation, and development. I have worked closely with the VP for Student Affairs, the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, and the Academic Advisors on software and data integration that support student retention and completion. My first primary responsibility in that area was the support of EAB (Link). I was involved in the data integration and technical rollout of EAB on campus as well as the training of users in using the software. As the EAB contract was not renewed I helped manage the transitions from EAB to the new Success HUB that we have designed and developed. Over the past two years, I have taken on the role of a project manager in organizing requests and suggestions from Advisors and Student Affairs staff to lay the groundwork for the Success HUB. I have collected feedback from departments and users on campus to build out features to help support the needs and mission they have to help support the success of SUU students. The Success HUB aggregates data from many different Banner screens, Canvas, and predictive analytics into a central location for advisors and Student Affairs staff. The planning, designing, and transition to The Success Hub is one achievement that I am most proud of while working in my role as a programmer & Analyst.

Adjunct Professor

Cedar City, Utah, Us

I had the opportunity to teach CSIS 3660: Network Design & Implementation and CSIS 3620: Network Administration II. Both classes were initially designed to provide hands-on experience using Novell Netware and E Directory to teach students how to design, manage, deploy servers and configure rights and directory services. After teaching in this format the first semester I was asked by the CSIS Department Chair Rob Robertson to convert both classes over to using Microsoft Server and Active Directory. I also helped move all the student servers from VM Player over on local hard drives to our VMware servers so that students could leave their servers running and working between classes. I loved teaching these classes and enjoyed mastering, deploying, and configuring Active Directory.CSIS 3660 Course Objectives:This course is designed to develop skills necessary to effectively design and implement solid Network environments. Issues involved are planning, designing, and implementing directory structures, and partition and replica strategies to name a few.CSIS 3620Course Objectives:This course prepares the student to administer networks using the Microsoft Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 operating system and to pass the MCSA 70-697, 70-698, and MCSA 70-741 certification exams. Focusing on updates to the software and in-depth coverage of the administration aspects of Windows, this course includes topics such as installing, configuring, managing and troubleshooting. In addition, fundamental coverage of topics from other MCSA certifications.

Help Desk Director / Network Administrator

Cedar City, Utah, Us

I helped envision and plan the creation and roll out of the IT Help Desk. It came at a time when we were experiencing a lot of growing pains in the IT Department and it was created to help us better support the growing needs of the University. We wanted to have better-trained students that could take some of the help request load off of the full-time staff. As the Help Desk Director, I helped support students, faculty, and staff with all technical needs and training. I mentored, managed, and trained student workers to help run and operate the IT Help Desk. I was involved in hardware and software deployment and testing as well as involved in the implementation of SUU's Mobile device strategy, back-end servers, and systems management. I planed and taught professional development training for our transition from Groupwise to Gmail and other emerging technologies used on campus. During this time I also became a certified Apple Repair Technician so that the Bookstore could open their Apple Store. While in this position I served on the Staff Association, helped spearheaded the iPadagogy group for the Provost, and served on other committees around campus. In this role, I also supported various faculty and staff departments across campus with all of their IT needs.

Jan 2012 - Aug 2015

Network Administrator

Cedar City, Utah, Us

In this position, my primary role was to manage SUU computer labs and support student users. I was involved in OS and software deployment across both PC and Mac computer labs. I managed the licenses of the software packages, tested, and deployed all lab software. During this time I implemented new ways of managing and deploying labs using KBOX and Deploy Studio making management much easier. I also implemented PaperCut to help manage student printing on campus. I took great pride in thinking outside of the box and not being afraid to change and implement new ways of managing and deploying labs. During this time I interviewed, hired, trained, and mentored Computer Lab Techs, and Network Techs. I created a Lab tech handbook to enforce policies and make sure all student workers knew their role and were trained to support the students and labs they were hired to support.
