Brandon Miller is a Partner in the Technology Risk practice of the Financial Services Organization of EY. He leads a local team of approximately 35-40 financial services IT auditors in the Des Moines, Kansas City and Omaha markets and has over 20 years of experience in providing assurance and advisory services to a broad range of large and middle-market public and privately held clients in primarily the insurance, asset management, banking, and payments sectors. His responsibilities include overseeing the planning, delivery, and execution of projects related to the evaluation of information technology and business process risks and controls, specializing in integrated financial audits, IT and operational internal audits, and system and organization controls (SOC) reporting. He has coordinated numerous projects relating to internal controls and IT risk management and assurance, where he has worked with clients to develop effective means to assess, control, monitor, and measure current and emerging risks. Brandon has experience in managing large internal control-related projects and currently serves as the engagement partner on around 30 annual SOC 1 and SOC 2 (previously known as "SAS 70") examinations, which focus extensively on the assessment and testing of business process/application controls and IT general computer controls. A majority of his clients operate using both mainframe and distributed systems. Brandon also oversees a number of internal audit teaming engagements working with client audit personnel.He also has domestic and international client service experience in various countries (e.g., Netherlands, Chile, Ireland, United Kingdom, Germany, Hong Kong, Mexico) and has supported his integrated financial statement audit work through multiple PCAOB inspections.

Global Technology Risk solution leader for SOC, attestation, and certification services responsible for defining the solutions vision focusing on market enablement, quality, efficiency, positive client and people experiences, and adding value through continuous improvement and innovation.

Brandon serves as the EY Americas Technology Risk SOC/Attestation Leader focusing on growth and market enablement for the multimillion-dollar EY SOC/attestation portfolio across the US, Canada, Latin America, and Israel. He works with account teams on emerging attestation areas to help our clients communicate trust to their customers through SOC/attestation reporting. Brandon has worked on well over 500 SOC 1, SOC 2, and other attestation reports during his career in primarily the financial services industry, including overseeing multiple SOC 2 engagements with cyber-related mappings (e.g., NIST Cybersecurity Framework). Brandon also serves as an EY representative on the AICPA SOC 2 Working Group and AICPA Cybersecurity Working Group.

Brandon oversees the recruiting efforts of EY on campus at the University of Iowa where we focus on hiring and then coaching/mentoring top accounting, information systems, analytics, finance, and multiple other majors to work across our global firm of over 400,000 focused on building a better working world.

Brandon served as the Financial Audit IT (FAIT) Leader for the EY Financial Services Organization (FSO, which is one of four US regions). Given the ever increasing role of IT in supporting companies’ business objectives and internal control, IT experience and knowledge are integral to the financial audits and related quality. Brandon oversaw the US network of over 500 EY Technology Risk professionals within FSO Consulting that were focused on delivering high quality channel 1 financial audits and attestations and integrating with the Assurance practice, Quality network, and Americas Technology Risk leadership.

This is a standing working group of SOC practitioners established through the AICPA Assurance Services Executive Committee (ASEC). The SOC 2 Working Group has responsibility with AICPA staff for drafting content and revisions to the: (1) TSP Section 100 - Trust Services Criteria for Security, Availability, Processing Integrity, Confidentiality, and Privacy, (2) DC Section 200 - Description Criteria for a Description of a Service Organization’s System in a SOC 2 Report, (3) SOC 2 Guide - Reporting on an Examination of Controls at a Service Organization Relevant to Security, Availability, Processing Integrity, Confidentiality, or Privacy, and (4) other AICPA nonauthoritative SOC 2 guidance (e.g., FAQs).

This is a standing working group of SOC and cyber practitioners established through the AICPA Assurance Services Executive Committee (ASEC). The Cybersecurity Working Group has responsibility with AICPA staff for drafting content related to SOC for Cybersecurity and other intersections of cyber and the audit/attest profession.

Serve as a volunteer executive mentor for FinTech/InsureTech companies selected for the Global Insurance Accelerator.

The University of Iowa Tippie Young Alumni Board is comprised of approximately 25 members from a range of business majors; each alumni offers unique perspective based on their background and their experiences both at The University of Iowa and in the business world. The primary objective of the Board is to support The Henry B. Tippie Undergraduate Program by creating in each of its alumni a strong interest and commitment to the school and developing a network of mutually beneficial relationships between alumni, students and faculty.

Beta Alpha Psi is housed within the AICPA and is a collegiate honorary organization for financial information students that has about 285 chapters on college and university campuses with over 300,000 members initiated. Served as Alumni Representative Director on the 18 member International Beta Alpha Psi Board of Directors. Alumni Representative Directors serve as full voting board members on a two year term and have the responsibility of helping advise the Board from a recently graduated college student and new professional perspective. Key accomplishments for the Board during my tenure included a new web-based membership administration and reporting system implemented, newly installed international chapters, increased diversification efforts to broaden the reach and inclusiveness of the organization, and new student competitions created with funded awards.
