I specialize in assisting insurers with their toughest cases, including those involving enterprise-level exposure and complexity, and loss events involving substantial accumulated risk. In the first party area, I have assisted clients with claims and claims-related litigation across a broad spectrum, including virtually every major catastrophe event over the last two decades. I have handled matters involving large-scale wildfire and mudslide claims, civil unrest claims, builders risk claims involving crane incidents and major building developments, a variety of ocean and inland marine matters, and complex business interruption and time element claims, including aggregate strategic oversight of hundreds of claims stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic. My niche expertise also extends to claims and litigation involving livestock mortality and agribusiness products, fine art and valuable articles, rare and high value automobiles, and entertainment property. My broad-based experience also extends to third party matters, including complex casualty and environmental cases, workers compensation and employers liability claims, and financial matters involving complex and high-exposure D&O, E&O, professional liability, and cyber claims. I have experience at all ends of the insurance policy lifecycle, and in both private practice and corporate practice with some of the world’s most respected insurers.

Provided legal advice and strategic counsel to claims staff and senior management in connection with the most complex and/or severe first and third party claims, including property, ocean marine, complex casualty, workers’ compensation, and specialty lines. Provided coverage opinions and advice, legal assessment of liability and damages in claims-related litigation, and legal support in connection with litigation filed by and against the company.

Reporting to the Chief Technical Officer, served as principal coverage resource within property and marine claim organization for North America, providing strategic claim handling guidance and technical analysis on the most complex and high exposure first party claims. Managed policyholder and extra-contractual litigation, utilizing sound judgment, creative strategy, and technical acumen to achieve superior results. Responsibilities also included impact analysis of new and proposed legislation and regulations, drafting support, assistance with regulatory issues, developing claim trend observations, and various training and development initiatives.

Counseled and advised claims management and staff with respect to coverage issues and handling complex claims. Provided guidance on policy and coverage interpretation in all domestic operating states and across all lines of business, including commercial property, marine, complex casualty, and specialty lines (professional liability, E&O, D&O, cyber, fidelity, etc.).

Nationwide practice handling complex insurance coverage counseling and litigation. Handled highly sophisticated matters ranging in scope from property coverage disputes involving complicated business interruption and other time element claims to liability insurance disputes involving mass tort and environmental claims, representing some of the largest and most respected commercial property, liability, and fidelity/surety insurance companies in the United States and abroad.

Reporting to the General Counsel, provided legal advice, coverage analysis, and claim handling guidance with respect to complex property and casualty claims and large losses. Represented insurance company subsidiaries in the defense and prosecution of declaratory judgment and contract actions involving premiums, coverage, and related issues. Provided legal support in connection with policy drafting, product development initiatives, regulatory compliance, and litigation management.

Assisted legal partners with a wide variety of initiatives across the spectrum, with scope of responsibility increasing with experience. Conducted extensive legal research on a variety of insurance law topics across all 50 states, including producer appointment procedures, policy termination, and coverage triggers. Prepared responses to consumer complaints and assisted with regulatory compliance projects and miscellaneous legal issues, including office leases, vendor agreements, and corporate matters.
