About Brandon Soobitsky
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” My older sister asks ten-year-old me. “I dunno,” I respond, most likely trying to focus on a video game. “Well, you like technology, you should be an engineer!”“Okay!” I declare, effectively sealing my fate and deciding all my future career plans at that moment.Of course, as I grew older and matured, I reevaluated my plans and explored other ideas, but it never seemed to waver. Being an engineer is something I am passionate about, the only question left was what kind. Fortunately, enrolling in the Project Lead the Way program in high school helped determine this, as I really loved my Digital Electronics Class, inspiring me to major in Electrical Engineering.Fast forward to the present day. I am currently studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Maryland, a school that means a lot to my family as my parents met in their sophomore year dorm here. My main goal with engineering is to be in a position where I’m actively helping people and proud of what I am accomplishing. I am currently very interested in the hardware side of EE, although I am open to receiving software experience, and I do not have a specific specialization yet, meaning that I am open to exploration in almost every field regarding EE. Specifically, I am looking into the Medical Device Manufacturing field, especially within Prosthetics.In my free time, I am involved in the Theta Tau Professional Engineering Fraternity, a coed fraternity surrounding the ideas of Professionalism, Service, and Brotherhood, and have served on the executive board as the scribe in the Spring of 2021. I also work as a Peer Assistant in the Engineering Career Services Center at the University of Maryland, providing resume and internship/career advice for any engineering students.
