Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of ChemConnection

May 8th 2012 together with Gerjan Kemperman I have started the new company ChemConnection. Ever since the company has grown to 19 people. ChemConnection has offered services to 8 national / international companies in a broad area of chemical development, GMP productions and complex chromatographical purifications.

• Development of safe, sustainable and cost effective chemical processes for the production under cGMP of active pharmaceutical ingredients (mainly steroids) for the benefit of toxicological and clinical studies.• Manager of 8 to 10 Bachelor educated employees in the Departmental Section.• Expert in synthetic organic chemistry with specialism in steroid chemistry.• Responsible for adequate transfer of production methods and know-how from development lab to subsequently Kilolab, Pilot Plant and Production. • Ultimately responsible for timelines and quality of the final products. • Representative of the department in multiple, simultaneously operating project teams. • Co-responsible for the scientific quality of the CMC modules to support clinical trials and registration of new drugs.• Responsible for possible cooperation on project basis with academic and commercial partners and implementation of new technologies.• Presentation of project results at international inter-departmental meetings. • Good knowledge of related quality (EMEA/FDA) and safety guidelines, especially in the areas of geneotoxic impurities.

• Independently synthesizing compounds for screening for the development of new drugs in various indications (e.g. oral contraception, anti-depression, Rheumatoid Arthritus, Parkinson). • Taking leadership in the development of complex chemistry.• Coaching of new employees and trainees.Relevant result : By means of synthesis of two possible metabolites (one-man project of almost one year) insight was provided in the clinical problems encoutered with a development compound. The approach of the project and subsequent lecture for the whole department turned out to be the prelude to promotion to the position of Groupleader within the Department of Process Chemistry.
