It is said that a person changes careers seven times in their lifetime. I was born and raised in a banana republic, Honduras; a little country in Central America the size of the state of Tennessee. I was educated at a bilingual American-International style high school in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. When it came to choosing a university and major, Graphic Design was still a relatively new major that wasn't available at home so I chose to enroll at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, Ga. I was a designer for four years, after graduating, at a design/print shop in Savannah. Being a people person, I found it difficult to sit behind a computer all day. I never imagined I would be anything else other than a designer but after a few life changes, I stumbled across a fulfilling job in Higher Education that combined my passions. Working as a representative for SCAD, I managed to combine my love for Art and Design with my experience/expertise in Latin America and the Caribbean culture. It was a surreal experience returning to my high school in Honduras to give a presentation to students about careers in the Arts. Amazing how life comes full circle sometimes. I then made the switch to a prestigious liberal arts college in beautiful Winter Park, FL. Rollins College is a little hidden gem about ten minutes from downtown Orlando. It's the kind of place that feels like family from the moment you arriveAs an advocate for students overseas I am able to change people's lives every day; whether it be a scholarship they don't think they can attain or just the encouragement that dream jobs are possible with the right opportunities....my job is rewarding. Encouraging others motivates me but overall I think it's the idea that I am helping, albeit in a very small way, to bring people closer to their purpose.Specialties: Fluent in SpanishAdmission into Art and Design UniversitiesCareers in the ArtsPortfolio Counseling and CuratingLatin American EducationCaribbean EducationLiberal Arts Education

It is the first of its kind to be offered by a museum. The definition for “illume” is to illuminate, enlighten, and educate which is indicative of this program’s overall intention to encourage mental and behavioral well-being among program participants.Sessions begin with a facilitated discussion, during which artworks from the OMA collection stimulate group conversations on themes related to the cancer journey; including resilience, transformation, hope, and wellness. Following the discussion, participants move to OMA’s studio classrooms, where they are led through artmaking exercises that build on the topics discussed in the galleries and promote self-reflection.In addition to the individual benefits of the workshop, Illume strives to foster a supportive group environment that encourages empathetic connections with other breast cancer survivors that will continue to evolve. -
