About Brandy Hawkins

Brandy Hawkins is a Geoscientist | Passionate Professional at Hawkins Geologic Consulting. She possess expertise in geology, geophysics, earth science, seismology, petroleum geology and 26 more skills. She is proficient in Spanish. Colleagues describe her as " Although it was not her responsibility, Brandy took me under her wing and mentored me during my operations rotation of SM’s initial training program. This was a very generous use of her time—I was a carbonate geologist with no operations or geophysics experience at all, and she was the only geophysicist in our entire operations department. Still, it was typical of Brandy: she is a trainer without parallel and an exceptional scientist and has a knack for applying her talents where they will have the greatest effect. Aside from taking on additional responsibilities to help the team, Brandy integrated our 3d Seismic into the well planning process, both to help us target the very narrow zones of tier one quality rock, and also to predict when we would get thrown out of zone by faulting. While this would be useful in any situation, for the Eagle Ford operations group it was essential—especially given the increasing unreliability of survey fixes with increasing wellbore length, and the laundry list of geologic hazards in our target area. Without Brandy’s work at grounding us operations geologists in a solid, reliable geophysical framework, we flatly would not have been able to steer the extended laterals with the precision required. It was a great reassurance to us operations geologists to know she was monitoring our progress, but much more importantly, without Brandy’s geophysical work the wells would have been uneconomic. Simple as that. The thing that turned the program economics around was being able to steer record-setting lateral lengths with 90%+ accuracy in a very, very narrow target zone. Without Brandy’s integration work, we could not have even attempted it, and without her non-stop support of the geosteering team, we would have tried and failed. She was essential from beginning to end. Her work provided the region with a transformational capability that completely changed the economics of the play. Brandy is intellectually curious, and always interested in running down a new play concept or investigating a new method to reveal more information about the subsurface. She has a true passion for geophysical exploration that can’t be taught—you have it or you don’t. I can’t think of a better mix of qualities to have in a mentor or manager. Brandy is the best of the best. " and "I have worked with Brandy for the past six years, in the capacity of both a mentor and as a co-worker at SM Energy and have found her to be smart, collaborative and open minded to new ideas. As our only operations geophysicist in our Eagle Ford asset team, I saw her evangelize the use of depth-converted 3D seismic data for well planning and hazard assessments. Prior to this, 3D seismic data were only looked at cursorily by the team. Now it's a foundational element for the operations team and she deserves a lot of credit for working with the team to develop the trust needed for them to adopt her workflows and interpretations. In short, Brandy would make a great addition for any operator who values driving down costs and drilling better wells by incorporating all available data on an integrated team to reduce risk and add value.
