As a member of the wheat double haploid team, I assist in the production of dihaploid wheat plants for the purpose of producing high quality seeds. The work consists of maintaining an ideal environment in the greenhouse, as well as working with the plants in the lab to create an almost 100% pure homozygous line.

While working for the Kansas Department of Agriculture, I obtained a diverse array of experience. I started my career at KDA in the dairy lab performing such duties as making media and solutions, maintaining lab supplies and general lab maintenance. Eventually, I obtained my FDA certification to perform quality analysis on a wide variety of dairy products. I crossed over into the microbiology lab where I learned testing used to detect Salmonella, Listeria and/or E. coli in meat products. I finished out my time at KDA as a Chemist II in the feed lab. My main job duty was to quantitate levels of drugs or antibiotics in animal feeds using both microbiological and chemistry methods.
