I’m a Registered Nurse and since 2013, I’ve worked in the role of Inpatient Clinical Documentation Specialist and Educator, in the acute care setting. Duties through the years of experience have included review of the inpatient medical record to assure documentation reflects the appropriate severity of illness, risk of mortality, quality of data reported and accurate hospital reimbursement for services rendered. I have knowledge of the MS-DRG and APR-DRG payment systems, HCCs, morality variables, observed/expected mortality ratios, ICD-10 and coding guidelines. I have performed quality audits to assure DRGs are maximized, and written queries are appropriate and compliant. In this role I have also been part of the provider onboarding education pertaining to CDI, providing education on CDI topics for new and existing providers within the internal medicine/hospitalist and intensivists services lines. I’ve played a key role in the development of presentations for onboarding providers within the internal medicine, intensivist, neurology and neurosurgical service lines. My title also includes the role of CDI Educator which includes onboarding of new CDI team members, with creation of presentations specific to each MDC to use as training materials. I have served as a resource to the CDI team and Coding team members, providing guidance on medical record review, query process and education from the clinical perspective on disease processes. In this position I have also been part of the development of compliant query templates. Most recently, I was selected and completed an Emerging Leaders Program through my current organization. This was a year accelerated program that was equivalent to a 2 year leadership program. I was privileged to be a part of this program and had the opportunity to complete a Capstone project, focusing on PAR rooms and process improvement.My skills include efficiency, attention to detail, ability to communicate and collaborate in a professional manner with the providers and interdepartmental teams via written or verbal interaction. I’m also proficient in EPIC, Outlook, written and verbal query process, and have experience in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
