Two decades of experience teaching the biological and life sciences to higher education students from diverse backgrounds, as well as involvement in student recruitment and community outreach, leadership, and non-profit volunteerism. Professional Outreach includes:Working with government and community outreach agencies/programs to evaluate and update current nutrition standards and outreach strategies (including emphases on Sustainability, Local Food Networks, and Socioeconomic and Cultural Barriers to Nutrition.) Research focus includes:a) The intersection of climate change, nutrition/health equity, and food systems transformation; and b) holistic interactions of biomolecules in plant extracts and foods and the mechanisms of biomolecules in the prevention/alleviation of disease.Higher Education Teaching Experience includes:Development and instruction of courses in the biological and life sciences. Currently teaching Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition, and Undergraduate Research classes and serving as a research mentor to undergraduate students. Particularly passionate about providing educational equity and advanced experiential STEM learning opportunities to PEER students and those who have been socially and economically disadvantaged.
