The AI for Peace is a nonprofit organization focused on studying and understanding the impacts of artificial intelligence (AI) and related exponential technologies on society. Our vision is a future in which AI benefits peace, security, and sustainable development and where diverse voices influence creation of AI and related technologies. We are preparing peacebuilders with the mindset, knowledge and tools to embrace, research, guide and develop human-centered artificial intelligence, ensuring the creation of sustainable positive peace. Global Perspectives: Responsible AI FellowshipConvening stakeholders from developing countries to discuss artificial intelligence, evaluate its impacts around the world, and propose responsible ways forwardIn partnership with Microsoft’s Office of Responsible AI, the Strategic Foresight Hub at Stimson established a fellowship program designed to convene a diverse group of stakeholders to examine AI applications and evaluate their impacts in developing countries. Together, Fellows will seek to understand how AI-related harms and benefits may manifest themselves in various social, cultural, economic, and environmental contexts, and identify technological and regulatory solutions that might help mitigate risks and maximize opportunities.

Data Innovation Lab is an innovative collaboration, established between the German Federal Foreign Office and GovTech Campus in Germany. It serves as a dynamic hub, fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders such as local actors, civil society organizations, UN agencies, tech entrepreneurs, governments, the private sector and academia in Germany and globally. The Lab functions as an experimental ground for testing and refining various policy and use case formats within the global arena. The overarching objective is the development of data applications, particularly those harnessing the power of artificial intelligence (AI), while upholding ethical principles and contributing to multilateral processes.

The Center on International Cooperation (CIC) is a non-profit research center housed at New York University, with a vision to advance effective multilateral action to prevent crises and build peace, justice, and inclusion. Their mission is to strengthen cooperative approaches among national governments, international organizations, and the wider policy community to advance peace, justice, and inclusion.My focus as an NYU CIC Non-Resident Fellow is on researching the utilization of data-driven approaches to peacebuilding and prevention. As part of this initiative, I authored the report on “Data for Peacebuilding and Prevention Ecosystem Mapping: The State of Play and the Path to Creating a Community of Practice”. The Data for Peacebuilding and Prevention (Data for Peace) program at NYU’s Center for International Cooperation seeks to bring together a multi-stakeholder coalition within the peace and prevention fields to build a community of practice that is using data to drive innovation and greater impact.

Building on the UN’s unique position as a fully globally-representative organization, the multi-stakeholder advisory body will act as a convening platform to promote and facilitate global coordination and cooperation between the numerous entities engaged in the development, governance, and use of AI systems. As such, the multi-stakeholder advisory body will support and amplify ongoing work by creating a global network of member states, UN entities, companies, academic institutions, and civil society organizations, who are developers, experts, regulators, and users of AI. The multi-stakeholder advisory body will aim to ensure representation from the Global South and to actively engage with Global South experts and stakeholders as it carries out its work. Our aim is to identify and share critical knowledge and practices that will benefit the whole of humanity.Roundtable 3C will conduct direct consultations with a diverse and inclusive group of experts and relevant entities to share knowledge and best practices in key areas of AI development, governance, and use. We will also seek to identify gaps in knowledge and support their exploration and consideration.

Provided support to ongoing and new projects being led by the Fragility Conflict and Violence Group (FCV), including the Famine Action Mechanism (FAM), the Global Crisis Risk Management Platform (GCMP), and the Crisis Micro-Data Desk, among others. Provided analytical support, collaborated with internal and external partners, and participated in meetings to help inform the Bank’s FCV project development and to further the FCV agenda. Provided written inputs, policy papers and briefs on famine risk analysis, early mitigation and response, financing and implementation arrangements. Researched the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in conflict early warning and early action mechanisms. Researched the ways of engaging philanthropy sector in famine early action mechanisms.

European Fund for the Balkans/Network of European Foundations is a joint initiative of European Foundations that envisions, runs and supports initiatives aimed at strengthening democracy, fostering European integration and affirming the role of Western Balkans in addressing Europe’s emerging challenges. The up to date programme strategy based on three overarching areas – Capacity Development, Policy Development and Regional Cooperation – is channeled visa flagship programmes and selected projects, complemented with a set of actions arising from EFB’s regional identity as a relevant player in its fields of focus. The Fund’s main priority is the development of cross-border, cross-ethnic and cross-religious relationships throughout the Balkan region. These relationships are an important asset for lasting peace and stability in the region.

Belgrade Center for Security Policy is a non-profit association with an overall aim of research into the full relationship between military and society, from a standpoint of modern thinking and practicing of individual, national, regional and global security. For that purpose, the Center specifically deals with the problems of security sector reform and armed forces in transition and post-conflict countries, as well as the prospects for placing these actors under democratic civilian control and public oversight. As a Fellow, I was responsible of doing analytical work on security sector reform, regional security and EU policies towards the Western Balkans, assisting in organization of international conferences, assisting in organization of the School for European Security. My research and analytical work resulted in a paper on identity and security, published in the Western Balkans Security Observer, in 2009.

The Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe was launched in 1999 as the first comprehensive conflict prevention strategy of the international community, aimed at strengthening the efforts of the countries of South Eastern Europe in fostering peace, democracy, respect for human rights and economic prosperity. The Stability Pact provided a framework to stimulate regional co-operation and expedite integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures. I was responsible for providing executive, administrative and budgetary support to the Chairman, communication with domestic and foreign media, organization of special events and conferences, analysis of the political situation in Serbia and the region.
