The IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program plays a crucial role in serving the community by providing essential tax services and improving financial literacy and well-being. During the 2021 tax season, our team served over 1,600 community members across 70 Georgia counties by preparing 1,500 tax returns resulting in $2.5 million in refunds. We saved clients $600,000 in tax preparation fees and our total economic impact was $4 million!As an assistant site coordinator for VITA, I managed a team of tax preparers and communicated with UGA Cooperative Extension agents to deliver high-quality tax preparation services to members of the Athens and Georgia Community.
