At the University of Illinois at Chicago, I’ve been able to create a brand new technology store within the Bookstore. During 2015 we demolished a third of the main Bookstore floor and built the UIC Tech Center to better support students, staff, faculty and departments. We are an Apple Authorized Campus Store and Service Provider, and I’ve collaborated with University IT to implement Apple’s Device Enrollment Program through our RATEX POS system enabling zero-touch deployment and management for faculty and staff. By drawing on my Retail Management, IT and Computer Service experience I’ve been able to assemble a team and build a resource for the entire University. I’m especially proud to be leading a mostly student team, who are able to gain valuable real-world experience and certifications while helping pay for their education.

Promoted from the Illini Tech Center division of Illini Media to IT Director for the entire company. Responsible for all aspects of a media and publishing network, from end-user support to managing a mixture of MacOS X, Linux and Windows 2003 servers. In this role, I administer services including the Vjoon K4 CMS, a 350 user Open Directory with MacOS X and Windows clients, Bacula Backups, AFP and SMB fileservers, a FileMaker Server, a Microsoft Great Plains accounting system, and more. I use a combination of NetBoot, NetRestore, Apple Remote Desktop and Workgroup Manager to efficiently deploy and maintain a fleet of over 50 Macs. For end-users I support MS Office, FileMaker Pro, Mail, Calendar, iWork, Adobe InDesign, InCopy, Photoshop and Acrobat.

As the Director of Operations I was responsible for sales, staffing, purchasing, and marketing for the Illini Tech Center. I implemented the Apple Authorized Campus Stores program within a unique hybrid operation owned by the student media company on campus. I directly managed 18 staffers responsible for $5 million in annual sales. The majority of our staff were students who I trained and evaluated on both product knowledge and customer service skills. Every year I wrote our marketing plan, and every quarter I turned this into a quarterly business plan for Apple. Working with a student graphic designer I was responsible for our advertising, website and promotional emails. Beyond the day-to-day operations, I also wrote, coordinated and executed major marketing projects such as our rebranding to comply with Apple Identity Guidelines and our highly successful annual iPad launches.

Created a successful, award-winning Apple Authorized Service Provider from scratch. I established a culture of excellent service in order to build and maintain customer relationships. First I created and implemented a workflow which optimized the AASP program for our on-campus setting, keeping in mind Apple’s requirements and goals as well as our specific customer needs. Then I hired and trained a staff of six Apple Certified Macintosh Technicians and several part-time student Service Assistants. Additionally I was responsible for purchasing and maintaining a Macintosh based server and point of sale network used by the entire Illini Tech Center operation.

Starting as the Calculus & Mathematica and NetMath Macintosh Administrator, I quickly became responsible for all Macintoshes in the department. I maintained student labs of mixed Macintosh and Windows machines as well as Macintosh based servers and Macs used by faculty. It was my responsibility to implement University requirements such as Active Directory based student logins and network access controls.
