Steven draws upon more than 40 years of strategic leadership experience to benefit human services. As an award-winning published historian, he is credited for advancing the study of LGBTQIA+ topics.For the past 20 years, he has been a member of the executive team of Area Resources for Community and Human Services (ARCHS). At ARCHS he leads strategic planning, operations, quality improvement (using Baldrige principles), evaluation/research, data/IT, event management, community benefit, and branding/communications/marketing efforts. For five years, Steven operated his own communications and marketing consulting firm serving noted education and healthcare clients. Steven has served as Communications Director for BJC Healthcare, Chief of Staff for the Chairman of the American Hospital Association (1999) and as a PR/Marketing Director for Christian Hospital.Steven is the past board president of the University of Missouri-St. Louis Alumni Association and the Crime Victim Center of St. Louis.He was a founding board member of Gateway Media Literacy Partners (GMLP) and served on the Community Advisory Board for the St. Louis 250th Birthday Celebration.For the past three decades, Steven has been an active member of St. Louis’ LGBTQIA+ community. In 2007, he founded the St. Louis LGBT History Project, partnering with local archives, colleges/universities, community elders, historians, and researchers to preserve and promote St. Louis’ vibrant LGBTQIA+ past. Steven conducts historical tours, curates educational exhibits, and provides speakers for community forums.In 2016, he authored the first book to chronicle St. Louis’ LGBTQIA+ history. “Gay and Lesbian St. Louis” (Arcadia Publishing) highlights the pioneers, places, and moments that have created a lasting legacy for future generations to build upon. Steven is the first openly gay member of the State Historical Society of Missouri's board of trustees. He also co-chairs the St. Louis-based Missouri Historical Society's exhibits and collections committee as part of their Gateway to Pride initiative.Steven also publishes pinkpillbox.com – a fun look at history and pop culture.He has a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and a master’s degree in communications from Saint Louis University.Steven is a graduate of the FOCUS St. Louis - Leadership St. Louis Program (2010).In 2002, Steven survived an attempted car jacking - being shot three times. Today he is an advocate for victims' rights and services.
