I am a pharmacist with a strong background on social sciences and public health as well as a wide range of professional experiences. After years of frontline experience in health organizations and pharmaceutical industries, I have been devoting myself to scientific research in public health. My scientific wfforts are concentrated in three realms of knowledge: health economics, health services research and social epidemiology. My work (conducted in countries as diverse as the USA, Brazil and Canada) has been presented in international conferences and peer-review scientific publications. HEALTH ECONOMICSMy research efforts in this area could be briefly summarized as the pursuit of value (i.e., health outcomes achieved per dollar spent) in health care systems. This broad endeavor focuses on the following points: 1- Strategies of priority-setting and resource allocation (description of existing practices; development and improvement of novel approaches; PBMA exercises; etc.)2- Disinvestment/reassessment of low-value health technologies (understanding of previous experiences of active and passive disinvestment; development of frameworks; impact evaluation)3- Value assessment frameworks (mapping of approaches to assess value; evaluation of existing frameworks; evidence synthesis for recommendations; etc.) 4- Cost-effectiveness / cost-utility analysis of existing and novel health care technologies / Health Technology Assessment.5- Appraisal and development of quality measures in hospital and health care as well as understanding of its drivers (like resource scarcity, staffing levels, education investment, EHR, etc.). HEALTH SERVIICES RESEARCHin this realm, I have participated in a variety of studies, including: the effectiveness evaluation of an intervention to increase HPV vaccination among adolescents in the US; access to health services among older Brazilians during the COVID pandemic; and the impact of private insurance on utilization in Brazil. SOCIAL EPIDEMIOLOGYFor my doctoral disseration II conducted three separate studies on the relationship between childhood disadvantage and several later-life health outcomes among Brazilians aged 50 and over using data from the baseline assessment of the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Aging. Most of my current work efforts focuses on the latter, investigating the effects of life-course exposurs on the health of older adults amd imderstamdomg the social determinants of aiging.
