I consult with sales and service partners to provide the products that best meet the needs of our customers. I evaluate and select risk to ensure the profitable acquisition of new cases and the continued profitable retention of inforce cases.

As a Senior Underwriting Specialist, I expanded on my prior responsibilities, by taking on more complicated and high profile cases. I led my team not only from an accuracy and production standpoint, but also improved workflows to shift responsibilities, mentored and trained new hires to be successful, and advocated for new resources for my team which increased productivity for the department as a whole. I was a key contributor to the Product Development Team for the new Life Product which involved planning, systems testing, training, and updating policy and procedure workflow documents.

I was responsible for assessing the manual risk of underwriting Group Life and Disability Products for prospective customers and renewing customers. I had a thorough understanding and ability to read and interpret all competitor contracts so that I could compare them to Unum’s product portfolio. I analyzed census data with Excel and utilized formulas and pivot tables to produce new data outputs and insights.

I was responsible for understanding and administering the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA), as well as a number of state regulations and corporate leave protections. I managed the complex processing of leaves, ranging from reviewing medical certification, to determining eligibility under the plethora of available leave protections. I maintained an ongoing relationship with claimants/employee and their associated employer contacts. I primarily handled restricted/complex customer accounts, which required an increased attention to detail, prioritization skills, and increased levels of interaction with employers (customer calls, emails, etc.) due to their complexity.

October 2015-April 2016: Worked as part of the Service Operations department, as part of the bank draft team. There I achieved excellent production numbers, without sacrificing accuracy and quality. My in-depth knowledge of the job led to me being chosen to update the current training manual, and to help in the creation of a new training module. While part of the bank draft team, I was also responsible for tasks including waiver of premiums, salary updates and helping ADP. May 2016-May 2017: With the readjustment of the Scholar Program in May 2016, I was interviewed, and selected to become a member of Internal Claims Auditing, as part of Enterprise Audit. I was responsible for auditing FML claims, to ensure that Unum is adhering to its performance agreements with its respective customers. I created a new training document which will greatly help to strengthen business performance, and to promote consistency (integral parts of the EA culture). Auditing immensely helped me in understanding the importance and impact of effective risk management.

After being hired as crew and moving up to a crew trainer, I was promoted to shift management through RC Management. I started as a mid-day manager and was soon trained as the closing manager. I was in charge of supervising employees, end-of-the-day paperwork and reports, and counting register drawers and entering deposit information. I was also in charge of supervising deliveries, entering and examining inventory, and tracking orders. Later, I was asked to become an opening manager. In that role, I was in charge of opening the restaurant, preparing daily paperwork, entering store-open information on the online system, counting the safe and handling bank interactions, and recording daily numbers for things such as sales, customer counts, and labor cost. I was trained in every station and was one of the only managers proficiently trained on how to run every shift. In addition to specific skills as an opening and closing manager, all shift managers are in charge of running shifts, leading crew and other managers, preparing for shifts, tracking sales and relevant information, and working to achieve profitability and all of McDonald's standards.
