For Three Years I was an Assistant Language Teacher in the highly competitive and well respected ‘JET Programme’ run by the Japanese government for the past 30 years. My primary function was to engage in grass roots cultural exchange with students and community members and of course, teach English to students aged 16-18 years old.My Duties include:- Curriculum/Lesson planning - Conducting English classes including the utilisation of technology such as iPad’s, Computers, AV equipment etc.- Despite the name ‘assistant’, most classes were conducted primarily by myself while the Japanese English Teacher supervised and was utilised as required.- Extra Duties included: Club Supervisor, Advising Teachers, Camp Participation, Judging Debate and Speaking competitions outside school hours, Participating in community events.- High Trust Duties included interviewing prospective Japanese English Teachers on behalf of the Board of Education and assistance in developing national exam testing standards.
