I was the majority angel investor in the formation of vLender, one of the first internet-based website hosts for mortgage bankers, brokers, banks, credit unions, thrifts and mortgage companies. Based on my background I also acted as an active investor-consultant. During the subprime financial crash the founders decided to file bankruptcy and I ascended to sole ownership. I am pleased to report that vLender continues to serve some of its first customers.

Formed with my younger brother, Jim, we initially were financing major commercial real estate and high-end residential loans. Jim was an early and very prominent architect of the construction-permanent loan in California and ultimately on a national basis.As a side business we originated some large land developments (ex., Copper Canyon, Sparks, NV), provided seed capital as well as construction financing in several prominent subdivisions in Reno-Sparks, NV and Bend, OR and developed, rehabilitated and managed multi-family properties in Southern California.Availing our firm of my past major pension fund relationships, I also was instrumental in both the transfer and recapitalization of Bridgeport Shopping Center (Tigard, OR) and Gresham Station (Gresham, OR), but the first "hunting license" fund from a major public pension fund direct to a developer within a sole real estate sector. Now well into its second decade that relationship has been replicated within the fund and by other funds. Within its fund it is the most successful single real estate fund.

Investment officer and fiduciary to the real estate section of the 20+ billion State employee's retirement fund. Led the only state-sponsored mortgage backed real estate bond offering. By timely and prescient action, I recovered over $300 million of potential losses within the flawed and dangerous intrastate mortgage banking scheme.

Managed the Orange County, San Diego County and Arizona region for Wells Fargo's boutique real estate investment banking subsidiary. I closed many of the largest commercial real estate equity, venture, institutional sales and construction/permanent debt transactions within the overall bank. Additional work included major property and portfolio repositioning, merger and workouts in advance of and during economic cycles. During my tenure the CEO/Chairman and Board awarded me a unique and sizable stock option award for my innovative and major contribution to the bank's reported earnings and service to its largest borrower.During a brief span of time I assisted one of my (and the bank's) larger customers from Europe, Bredero Vast Goed N.V.. Bredero wanted to set up an office in California and chose Newport Beach. I helped establish that office and originated major joint developments for Bredero (and Wells Fargo/ABN) in joint ventures with some of the largest landowners and developers in Southern California.

Personally recruited by "Professor" Bersche was quite an honor. I worked under Neil in the Los Angeles office and ultimately choose to transfer to the Portland, OR office for family reasons. My clientele included banks, thrifts, major real estate development firms, 501c3 entities and wealthy entrepreneurs, families and trusts.
