I was the Head of Human Resources at GE BE Pvt. Ltd. GE BE Pvt. Ltd. is a key manufacturing facility in the Global Supply Chain of GE Healthcare. It is a Joint Venture between General Electric and BEL (Bharat Electronics Limited), a Government of India Company. The company is manufacturing medical equipment’s as per FDA standards that are exported worldwide.Key Responsibilities: 1), Manage the Employees Union and ensure zero production loss due to Industrial Relations. 2), Closely work with the various COE’s and HR Operations teams to ensure timely & quality delivery of HR services to the clients. 3), Overall in charge of all the HR related functions in the plant that includes Talent Acquisition, Compensation & Benefits Planning, Learning & Development, Performance Management, Industrial Relations, Union Management, Employee Welfare, and Labour & Employment Compliances.Major Achievements -1), Successfully concluded the first long term settlement with the Employees Union and without any production loss. (Recognized by GE India Corporate HR Head).2), Resolved a decade-old problem of the shortfall in skilled operators (glassblowers) by making a thorough hiring plan. (Obtained the CEO Award for this).

The Company decided to expand by constructing a new plant (Brownfield project). An extended part of the Brownfield project was to bring in seven Onsite Suppliers who were leading Tier-1 manufacturers. I was transferred to the HR Division for supporting the Brownfield. Key responsibilities: 1), Synchronizing the Blue-Collar HR policies of seven leading Tier-1 companies towards the establishment of an ‘Onsite Supplier Park’ in the premises of Toyota Kirloskar Motors (an extended part of the Brownfield project) 2), Ensure 100% Labour - Industrial Law compliances in the construction area (Brownfield project)3), Regular liaison with Labour / Factories Department authorities in Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune & Gurugram (Gurgaon).4), Pan-India auditing of Contractors. 5), Continue support to Industrial Relations Team in interactions with the Employees Union. Key achievements: (1), Successfully coordinated with seven Tier-1 Companies for a mutually acceptable common Blue Collar HR Policy and Practice. The companies include (i) Asahi India Glass Ltd., (ii) Bundy India Ltd., (iii) JBM Auto Limited, (iv) Supreme-Treves Pvt. Ltd., (v) Toyotetsu India Auto Parts Pvt. Ltd., (vi) Tata Johnson Controls Automotive Ltd, & (vii) Wheels India Limited. (2), Saving of INR 28 million by succeeding against a government order to pay Cess on 2nd plant construction under Building & Construction workers Cess act.(3) 100% compliance of all Labour-Industrial laws during the Brownfield project.

Joined as a Management Trainee in the Legal Department. Key responsibilities were:(1), Ensuring pan-India legal compliance (1 Factory, 5 Regional Offices, 3 Regional Parts Depots) (2), Drafting contracts related to: (i)Purchasing, (ii) Marketing / Sales, (iii) Information Systems, (iv) Human Resources & (iv) Administration. (3), Pan-India litigation management. (4), Support the Industrial Relations team in interactions with the Employees Union. Key achievements: (1), Introduced Pan-India “Legal Compliance Framework” for all business units (except taxation), and ensured 100% compliance. (2), In-house drafting of all legal / court-related documents (except taxation) and including an MOU entered with the Government of Karnataka for establishing new JV for the manufacture of transmissions (M/S Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts) (3), Key role in setting up of: (i) Toyota Technical Training Institute; (ii) Pan India Technical Education programs in Industrial Training Institutes; (iii) Employees Co-operative Society; (iv) Industrial Area Association;(4), Standardization of contract templates.(5), Succeeded in various key high stake litigations through effective research and coordination.(6), Major role in establishing an ‘Association of Blue Collar Workforce’ for improving the ‘Workman – Management Communication’ (7), Drafted the initial by-laws for the employees union.(8) Key role in the drafting of (i) Certified Standing Orders, (ii) Employees Service Policy, & (iii) Conduct Discipline & Service Rules. (9) Member of the Cross-Functional Team for negotiations with Employees Union during Charter of Demands negotiations. (10) Drafted all the settlements entered with the Union from 2000 till 2010.(11) Conducted & coordinated in Domestic Enquiries that have been held as ‘fair’ by Labour Courts.

I took a break from law practice as I was preparing to join the Indian Army as an Officer. I successfully passed the competitive exams and also the SSB interview. However, I could not join the academy for medical reasons. Thereafter, I decided to resume law practice.
