About Breanna Reeves
I am currently a reporter at Black Voice News using data to report on disparities in healthcare, among other things, in Southern California's Inland Empire. My work aims to emphasize local stories and amplify the issues that impact Black communities in throughout Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.In 2022, I was selected to be a part of USC’s 2022 Center for Health Journalism California Fellowship. I spent six months covering the state of Black maternal health in California, specifically throughout San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. I examined the high rate at which Black birthing people die compared to their White counterparts and highlighted solutions to address the crisis: implementing doulas into the Medi-Cal.In 2021, I was chosen as a Report for America Corps member which afforded me the opportunity to join the team at Black Voice News. Since joining the newsroom, I have written dozens of articles that focus on enlightening the community about COVID-19, existing health disparities in the region as well as social and economic issues that impact the community. I graduated from Report for America in 2024 after completing three years in the program.In 2020, I completed my Master's degree in Politics and Communication from the London School of Economics and Political Science. I have a bachelor's degree in Journalism and a minor in International Relations from San Francisco State University.In 2019, I was the recipient of the Charles J. Mauro Scholarship at LSE. In 2016, I was the recipient of the Bob Brown Memorial Scholarship at SF State and won awards for social media reporting and excellent news reporting for Golden Gate Xpress, SF State's student-run newspaper.https://breannareeves.comTwitter: @_breereeves
