During college, when I should have been immersing electrodes in salt solutions, I was busy immersing myself in Wodehouse, Tolkien and Tagore. Words were my best friend growing up, my escape from the colourless world of chemical engineering, my passport to one of the world’s best journalism schools, the bricks with which I built a career working with some of the biggest names in academia, publishing and journalism. Words remain to this day the greatest love of my life. The runner up, naturally, is ginger tea. Since the mid-2000s, I’ve personally copy edited more than 100 (and overseen work on over 5,000) books, as well as a large number of articles for newspapers, magazines and academic journals. I’ve also designed and typeset pages for about a dozen newspapers, journals and magazines. I’ve set up news desks and publishing operations, reimagined processes to make them exponentially more efficient and cost-effective, assembled and led teams of highly skilled and motivated copyeditors and typesetters, and been the go-to guy to deal with both difficult texts and difficult people.
