Being a new hire is exciting but terrifying! Unfamiliar faces, different equipment, new vocabulary and ways of operating. You can’t help but feel like you are back in your middle school cafeteria, lunch tray in hand, trying to find somewhere to sit and someone to connect to. As the onboarding partner at Pluralsight, I commit to cultivating an elevated new hire onboarding experience by: -Running a bi-weekly company wide New Hire Orientation. All new hires attend a two day orientation that is applicable to any team member joining the company. Main objectives of this orientation: -They feel taken care of and set up for success from an IT/hardware standpoint.-They have the top of the funnel information of the company: how the company is structured, high level overview of the products, and where to go to what information post orientation.-Most important: creating a sense of belonging to our mission and values. We hired team members for the skill set they have, yes, but also for who they are. Team members get to feel safe to be themselves at the workplace, and feel empowered to hold themselves accountable and those around them accountable to the value behaviors the company embodies. Setting leaders up for success to be able to take care of their new hires and employees. Being a people leader doesn’t always come naturally and requires empathy, delegation, and trust.Programs include:-Creating and implementing 30-60-90 day company wide onboarding plans. This allows the heavy lifting of onboarding to be done, and frees up space for the leader to curate the plan to their team members on an individual basis. -New leader orientation: Orientation specific to new people leaders to give them the information and resources.-Learn to Lead series: courses and follow up discussions focused on the management tasks of leadership ie. giving and receiving feedback, change management, and coaching basics. -Value behaviors and leadership discussions on a semi- annual basis
