Ms. Breeana Sylvas champions solutions for organizations to scale their social and environmental impact. She serves as Director at Roi and ARD. Prior to transitioning to the private sector, she served as Interim Chief Sustainability Officer at UC Merced. At the campus, she led the university’s Carbon Neutrality program. UC Merced is the First Public Research University in the United States to achieve a carbon neutral operation. The university received recognition including, a resolution from the State of California Senate, and a USGBC Regional Leadership Award. She led UC Merced’s effort to achieve AASHE STARS PLATINUM rating in 2022. This achievement is the highest certification a higher education institution can receive for its sustainability performance. Ms. Sylvas programs and projects have won multiple awards including, Community Engagement, amongst national recognition. Her goal is to support social and environmental impact. She has championed equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout her entire professional career. She is the recipient of multiple individual leadership awards including, the State of New Mexico Office of African American Affairs exceptional community service award. A resolution from the New Mexico State University Board of Regents in official session for her leadership, where she served as a member of the Board. She is also the recipient of the Merced Sun STAR inaugural 20 under 40, and countless forms of recognition. She has introduced national prominent leaders including the Honorable Pete V. Domenici, United States Senator for New Mexico. Thought leader Dr. Cornell West, and also had a role in facilitating speaking engagement’s including, Donna Brazile former Chairwomen of the Democratic National Committee. Ms. Sylvas is the first to say, “you can never achieve ambitious undertakings alone. It takes the support of a collective, empowered, engage community to move innovation and opportunities forward.” While she provided leadership and direction, she credits the communities she was apart of for taking action to make the real difference.
