Brenda Scott a Canadian artist whose works include paintings, drawings, floristry, and slight dabbling in sculptures. Brenda started her artistic route at a very young age, with no formal artistic schooling she developed a keen interest in art and discovered she was blessed with a natural ability to excel as an artist and to express herself through her work. Giving back to the community has always been an important part of her art, currently Brenda arranges flowers for funerals and special events in the community. Brenda worked hard to improve and better her craft through years of creative and resourceful trial and error in order to learn and further develop the abilities and skills she uses as an artist. Brenda has trifled with portraits and other styles of painting but enjoys exploring the concept of landscapes and incorporating her First Nations heritage in a nostalgic but post-modern way, Scott investigates the dynamics of First Nations cultural relativism through an oil medium, including the manipulation of its effects and the limits of spectacle based on the conceivers assumptions of what landscape means to them. Rather than presenting a factual reality, an illusion is fabricated to conjure the realms of the conceivers imagination. Brenda enjoys painting to establish a link between the landscape’s reality and that imagined by its conceiver. Working in the traditional forms and modern media (usually oil paintings), Brenda portrays figures, animals, and scenes from First Nations folklore, which are meant to bring her ancestors' visual traditions into a contemporary form. Brenda Scott currently lives and works continuing her floristry and painting in West Vancouver.
