Working in the School of Foundational Learning I am part of a team of instructors that work collectively to provide adult learners with upgrading opportunities to advance their employment training objectives. Together we plan, execute and deliver mathematics programming (grade 9 level to Math 31) in a flexible learning environment using multi-modal methods of instruction aimed at meeting diverse learner needs. Excellent knowledge of curriculum objectives and pre-requisite learner skills is essential as is the ability to spontaneously personalize instruction to specific learner needs and strengths. Building strong learner-instructor relationships is central to supporting adult learners that may balancing their learning in the context of complex and dynamic personal environments. Excellent communication skills are required to monitor and implement all aspects of the learner's progress within the defined parameters of their program plan.

In this position I provided and supported programming to students in grades 10 - 12, all levels of Mathematics and all levels of Sciences (General and Specialized). This position required the ability to work with students at any point in a course sequence, using prior learning effectively and adapting instruction to overcome instructional gaps or weaknesses so as to continue with learning objectives. Coordination of instruction and assessment between various learning partners was integral as this delivery program would often become an option when traditional classroom instruction was not effectively addressing learner needs. Working collaboratively with all modes of student support (administration, parents, counselors, learning strategists, outside agencies, etc) was essential to provide a comprehensive approach to behavioral and learning needs.

This teaching position blended a very traditional instructional learning environment with lessons and activities that were infused with technology, and as such, familiarity and adaptability with technology was very important, as was the ability to provide high quality classroom instruction and support, and a desire to enhance learning with individualized or small group instruction outside of class. Excellent and thorough communication was essential to provide comprehensive information regarding each student's progress in year long courses. Given the comprehensive learning mission, teachers were required to have a learning philosophy that fostered the development of multi-faceted students, focusing on excellence in academics, athletics, societal awareness and character development.
