Mini Instruments made and developed specialist radiation detectors for personal protection andsurface area contamination hot spots. Centronic designed developed and tested nuclear reactor andfuel processing detectors. With full P&L responsibility the challenge was to retain key staff andknowledge base to maintain nuclear detectors for our client base (utilities,AECL, BNFL, MOD).

TWI is a specialist consultancy company in the field of material joining technologies. The role was tosell consultancy services to the aerospace and micro-electronics industries and to develop projectconsortia for externally funded R&D via the DTI and EU Commission. Key success was the delivery ofa 100% funded demonstration programme from the EU worth £1 million over 3 years.

The scheme was an introduction into manufacturing and business management methods, as appliedin materials engineering industries.
