Established in 1995, Haugen Consulting LLC provides voyage performance tracking and demurrage resolution services to shipowners, charterers, and commercial trading partners in the bulk liquids shipping industry. In addition, we teach tanker operations and demurrage training courses worldwide. Our expertise is integral in innovating a demurrage software solution that is changing the way the world manages demurrage.

Provide training for analysts, schedulers, freight traders, terminal personnel and the contracts department.• Provide spot contract language which reduces net exposure and in many instances, enables the profiting from demurrage.• Consult on STUSCO's products GT&Cs and Crude GT&Cs.• Provide critical review inclusive of recommended amendments for STUSCO to use when other companies’ GT&Cs are governing.• Help provide managerial oversight for STUSCO’s demurrage department.• Participated in the hiring of new employees and then the training of them.• Serve as an SME for SWST, STUSCO, Shell Oil, SOPUS, and Motiva.• Via reworking of contract language and implementation of process whereby demurrage is billed at the market rate, achieved a CVA of $1.5mm plus / year for past 2 years.• Currently handle International Crude demurrage. For Jan 1, 2015 to Jun 30, 2015, via in-depth analyses and negotiations saved $3.2mm (18%) off demurrage payables. During the same time period, collected $13.5mm in demurrage.• Attended the management training courses, “Lean Practitioner”, “Working Effectively in Teams”, and “Coaching for Individuals”.

• Chartered tankers on behalf of clients, overseeing the voyage from beginning to end and handled all claims including any necessary rebilling. On those vessels chartered on behalf of clients, clients recouped demurrage from suppliers and/or receivers in excess of the demurrage that was incurred with owners. • Streamlined business operations by developing and implementing a demurrage audit and rebilling system. This new process improved efficiency by over 100%, dramatically improved accuracy and provided for accurate distribution of demurrage to cost centers whilst simultaneously allowing for the capture and utilization of KPIs.• Reduced clients'​ demurrage payables by 38% on average via the proper and thorough analysis of demurrage claims. Likewise, collected on behalf of clients in excess of 93% of what was rebilled. And, when called upon worked in-house with clients. • Managed and trained Haugen employees and served as a functional and knowledgeable resource. • Helped create three courses: Introduction to Tanker Operations, Introduction to Demurrage and Advanced Demurrage. Successfully taught all three courses multiple times a year internationally. • Wrote and fine tuned contracts, clauses and marine provisions for companies within the industry. This fine tuning of contracts and the creation of marine provisions reduced a client’s demurrage per metric ton on all products by a minimum of 40%.• Vetted tankers on behalf of clients subsequently assessing the risk of casualty and the risk of delay upon arrival at port and in port. Basis the analysis, then contemporaneously recommended conditions for clients to use when accepting the nomination.• Analyzed time charter data​: tracked time chartered vessels' speed and consumption and then recovered damages from the owners for non-performance. • Wrote and edited Haugen Consulting’s quarterly newsletter, The Tankvoyager, which is distributed worldwide via subscription to industry professionals.
