The Building Services department is responsible for applying the Building Act, for both Building Consenting Authority functions i.e. processing and inspection building consent applications through to issuing of a Code Compliance Certificate, and territorial authority functions like managing Building Warrants of Fitness. This department is very busy processing 1400 Consents a year through application of sound quality systems, which have seen us recently pass our IANZ assessment, allowing us to continue to issue those consents.Responsibilities Management of staffs needs including hiring, Disciplinary matters and training Management of departmental budgets Working to check that agreed processes are adhered to, to ensure consistency of processing Management of statutory clocks Participating in Departmental and Directorate continuous improvement, which included working with development of the ISO 17020 quality manual for the directorate Achievements Passing of 2 IANZ assessments Adapting a changing team to present a friendlier face to customers. This included restructuring the department in order to give more responsibility to staff Continuing to push quality improvements across department, including participation in development of Directorate Quality manual Being accepted into the role by peers and staff Returned a focus onto Territorial Authority functions, which had historically been ignored.
