For more than forty years, as a corporate litigation counsel, as the managing partner of a litigation firm, and as an advocate and neutral in many commercial arbitrations, Brendan has been involved in the full spectrum of legal issues arising in the technology, communications, controls, life-safety, and financial industries. His work has involved performance disputes, as well as antitrust, trade secret, copyright, and environmental matters. In recent years, he has developed expertise in legal disputes related to blockchain technology, cryptocurrency, and fintech. Brendan served as chief litigation counsel for Honeywell Inc. In this position, he was responsible for the defense of cases aggregating billions of dollars of claims, and he pioneered effective litigation-management and cost-control procedures. After leaving Honeywell, Brendan founded and was the managing partner of litigation firms that concentrated their practices on national-level commercial disputes. During his years in private practice, he represented several Fortune 500 companies and provided litigation-management services to prominent suppliers of high technology products and services. Brendan was one of the first attorneys selected as a Massachusetts Super Lawyer in the area of commercial litigation, a distinction reserved for the top 5% of practitioners in each discipline.In addition to his work as an attorney and as a litigation manager, Brendan has, since 1989, served as an advocate and neutral in many large, complex, commercial arbitrations. For the past several years, arbitration has been his principal focus. His experience in arbitration is extensive and diverse. It includes numerous class actions, the dissolution of a large law firm, multiple disputes between pharmacies and pharmacy benefit managers, and a dispute between a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency exchange and a margin-trading arbitrageur. Before beginning his law practice, Brendan was a Staff Attorney to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. He has also taught college economics and been a member of the American Law and Economics Association.He holds a master's degree in economics from Syracuse University and is a 1973 cum laude graduate of Suffolk University Law School. In 2021, he completed a Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab program of study on cryptocurrencies. He is admitted to the bars of Massachusetts, New York, U.S. District Court for Massachusetts, and First and Fifth Circuit Courts of Appeals.
