As a district administrator at Chelsea Public Schools, I oversee the implementation and evaluation of programs and interventions that foster the social-emotional, and academic development of all students. With over 18 years of experience in education and social work, I am passionate about creating a positive and nurturing school environment that promotes collaboration, innovation, and equity.My core competencies include developing and leading professional learning communities, facilitating family and community engagement, mental health-related services, and providing culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices. I have a proven track record of supporting students with diverse needs and backgrounds, including at-risk, special education, and English language learners. I hold a Bachelor of Social Work from Wheelock College, and a Master’s in Social Work from Boston College, and have completed coursework in Educational Leadership through the University of New England. I hold certifications/licenses as an Attendance Officer, School Adjustment Counseling, Principal Pk-12, Director of Pupil Personnel, Director of School Counseling, Superintendent, and Title IX Coordinator. Career Highlights: In 2014, Peña took her first leadership position as Head of Family and Community Engagement/Dean of Students with Bentley Academy in Salem, Massachusetts. In that role she worked closely with internal and external stakeholder to plan, implement, and monitor the school’s improvement and turnaround efforts. Peña was one of the founding members of Bentley, a school that achieved Level 1 status. In 2017, Peña took the leadership role of Associate Principal and was the first Latinx Administrator of the Waltham Public School District, and in 2021, she was hired as Principal for Waltham High School, making her the first Latinx female Principal in 54 years.
