LOSS responds on scene to work hand in hand with Macomb County Police Departmens in providing emotional support to families who are just finding out they have lost a loved one to suicide.

Brenda Szalka is a Team Leader for the Macomb Emergency Response Group (MERG) and has responded to hundreds of critical incidents over the years.

Brenda Szalka fulfilled the role of Director of CARE’s WorkLife Solutions, a full service, traditional Employee Assistance Program, until April, 2011 when she accepted a position with Henry Ford Health Systems. Ms. Szalka holds a Masters Degree in Occupational Social Work from Wayne State University and is certified as an Employee Assistance and Substance Abuse Professional. She had been with CARE since 1994 providing clinical problem solving sessions, professional and leadership development, employee mediation and human resource coaching and consulting. Ms. Szalka remains a team leader for the Macomb Emergency Response Group (MERG) providing Critical Incident Stress Response and Recovery and also a team member for LOSS (Local Outreach to Survivors of Suicide).

Specialized in the feild of Top Secret Telecommunications for three years before being Honorarbly Discharged. Basic Training completed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina; Field Training at The US Army Signal Center of Excellance at Fort Gordon, Georgia; and Advanced Indivistualized Training at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. Following that was a 30 month assignment in Stuttgart, Germany.
