About Brenden Gerber

Language is my passion: the one constant in my life. Throughout my career I have worked as a translator, writer, and editor in a variety of settings ranging from legal interpreter, to dictionary editor, to bilingual art teacher, to comic book writer. As my latest journey I have taken my passion of language and the skills I have developed in a new direction: programming. I love learning new languages so backend development was a natural fit, and I have never looked back.I am currently working as a backend developer. I have experience using a variety of technologies including node.js, express.js, postgres SQL, Mocha testing, AWS S3, Digital Oceans VPS, Dokku, and more! I use those technologies to build scalable website and app backends (servers and databases) as well as deploy and manage websites and apps.

  • Bagia & Associates, P.C.
    Legal Translator
    Bagia & Associates, P.C. 2014 - 2015
    Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States
Working as a paralegal, I performed both translation and interpretation, as well as a first contact with Spanish speaking clients. While there, I translated hundreds of documents (contracts, legal documents, civil documents, legal memorandums, client affidavits, government forms, questionnaires, client attorney agreements, etc), interpreted at attorney-client meetings, conducted client interviews with Spanish-speaking clients and wrote their affidavits for court or immigration applications, and prepped Spanish-speaking clients for court and Immigration interviews. Professionalism and accuracy were of the utmost importance in a setting where even minor errors could potentially have drastic negative consequences. Timely completion of work was also a constant concern as court dates were non-negotiable. During this employment I had the opportunity to improve my accuracy dramatically while still maintaining a high level of efficiency which was necessary to meet important deadlines.
